JSONL to CSV and Excel converter
Quick answer
JSONL is the format AI datasets ship in; CSV is the format the rest of the company can open. This converter turns JSON Lines into a CSV you can open in Excel or Google Sheets. Load the file, and nested objects become columns named with dot paths (customer.plan). Arrays stay as JSON text in one cell, or expand to their own columns if you prefer. Pick which columns to keep, preview the result, then download either a raw CSV for pipelines or a spreadsheet-safe CSV that stops Excel from treating cells that start with =, +, - or @ as formulas. The conversion runs entirely in your browser — the file is never uploaded.
Your sample is processed in this browser. File contents are not uploaded.
Supported input
.jsonl / .ndjson text, up to 10 MiB or 25,000 records. Each valid line should be a JSON object.
How it works
Nested objects become dot-path columns (customer.plan). Arrays are written as JSON text in one cell by default, or expanded to indexed columns (tags.0, tags.1) if you choose. Columns appear in first-seen order. A missing key gives an empty cell; JSON null gives the text null. If a literal key containing a dot collides with a nested path, the collision is reported and the later value wins. The output is re-parsed to confirm quoting and embedded newlines survived.
Limitations
- The spreadsheet-safe export prefixes formula-like cells (starting with =, +, -, @ or a tab) with an apostrophe, which changes those values. Use the raw export for pipelines.
- Very deep nesting (beyond 8 levels) is kept as JSON text.
Questions
- How do I convert JSONL to CSV?
- Paste or upload the JSONL file, choose how arrays are handled and which columns to keep, then download the CSV. Each line becomes one row, and nested fields become dot-path columns such as customer.plan.
- How do I open a JSONL file in Excel?
- Convert it here and choose the spreadsheet-safe CSV download, then open that file in Excel or Google Sheets.
- What is the difference between the two downloads?
- Raw keeps every value exactly, for pipelines. Spreadsheet-safe adds an apostrophe before cells that start with =, +, - or @ so a spreadsheet shows them as text instead of running them as formulas.
- Is the file uploaded?
- No. Conversion runs in your browser and the file contents are never sent anywhere.
- Is my file uploaded?
- No. The file is read and processed in this browser tab, and its contents are not sent to SourceX or anyone else. Closing the tab or pressing Reset clears it.
